Maybe not the news you were looking for…

Still nothing really new for the Song of Ice and Fire designs, sadly.  My creativity needs a bit of a kick in the ass.

So this might end up being the right kind of diversion to give my creativity a little bit of a break in one area long enough to kickstart it again: I’m going to try my hand at designing a game.

I spent some time yesterday scrolling through the BrickArms catalog, and the spy weapons especially inspired me, and so I’ve decided to try my hand at a spy-based, James Bond-esque tabletop game.  While it won’t require the use of Legos, (it could honestly be played with just about anything to represent the game pieces) I would encourage it because with the right minifigs and weapons (especially the ones from BrickArms), and with time taken to build the game boards out of Legos, the game could be so much more improved.

I won’t take up more space on this blog for this project, but be on the lookout for a secondary blog soon that will start to display some of the concepts.

I know, I know…

There hasn’t been a whole lot to show lately, other than Varys and the half-finished Other (who still remains unfinished), and I’m sorry there hasn’t been more.  Truth be told, I’ve been working a lot recently at my crappy current job, and have been preparing for a second interview for an actually decent job, on top of looking for new apartments for the Fall.  And in what free time I get, I’ve been working my way through “A Feast for Crows”.  I probably should’ve read further by now, but I found the intro chapter for this one so dull that for a while I was focusing on other books I’ve had on backlog.

At least the good news is that even though it’s far from my favorite book in the series, “A Feast for Crows” has really started me thinking on how I want to potentially handle not only the Greyjoys but also the Martells, both being Houses I really want to work with once I’ve done what I can with the Starks, Lannisters, and Targaryens.

Please just stick with me and soon you should have some new stuff to gaze at.

White Walker/Other (Work in Progress)

White Walker/Other

I’m going to do something I don’t generally do, and show an in-progress shot of my current concept for the White Walker/Other.

The legs are originally based on the design for the Ijad Strider, with modifications I thought up while at work. The skis are there to facilitate rapid movement, and can be folded out to represent this. The torso is a modified Chub torso. (I really do love the Chub torso, though not the standard arm design) The “sword” weapon replacing the one arm is a Hero Factory piece that I felt fit the information I’ve found regarding the Others in the original universe, which states that they carry crystal swords. It’s big, but that’s because it’s supposed to be quite threatening.

At the moment, the other arm has no real use. I’m also currently trying to figure out how to make the head work, since the pieces being used to anchor the arms to the torso are in the way, and LDD seems to want to rotate the entire body instead of just the piece if I try the rotate tool. And as stated earlier, I need to come up with a concept for the attachment required for the “Evolutionaries” rule mod that Mantisking came up with.

So, still some work needed, but I feel it’s on it’s way. However, I welcome thoughts, critiques, and ideas, so please post away!

A new concept being worked on…

So I’ve been thinking a lot over the past few days about concepts in the Song of Ice and Fire universe that I really want to touch upon, and I’ve decided upon the next concept I really want to focus on: The Others/White Walkers.

Just as in the original universe, the Others have been subject of many tales throughout the years, having not been seen for a great number of years.  No one has ever been able to conclusively describe what they are or where they come from.  However, they have now begun to make a reappearance, mainly beyond the Wall, though most who encounter them end up either dead or terribly frightened and sent running as far as they can away from their post.

In terms of the game, Frames used by the Others are primarily Hand-to-Hand, with Defensive attachments as well to represent their difficulties in being killed, and Movement systems.  But, the special thing about the Others is the inclusion of a rules modification devised by MantisKing, as seen here and here, known as Evolutionaries.  Based on anime characters who are better able to pilot mecha through special abilities, such as Newtypes in the Gundam universe, a system included in the Frame’s design allows for the Frame to roll additional dice for attacks or defense, or to “push” units back.  This would represent the supernatural killing power of the Others within the original universe, and make the Others a considerably formidable opponent on the battlefield.

I have yet to formally begin work on Frame designs, but I’ll post something as soon as I’ve got something worth showing.

Let’s Try This…

Today, my fiancee’s GPS decided to throw a fit and just stop playing nice.  So, since I now get to look forward to at least another hour or so of sitting here, playing with the software to get things working again, I’ve decided to start transferring my stuff from my Tumblr, which I’ve decided really isn’t a great blog choice, to a new blog here, where people can actually properly comment on my work.

There won’t be much here to start with, to be fair, but that’s how it works with moving.  And it’s sure as hell easier than the moving fiasco I’ll have to deal with in two months when my apartment lease runs out…
